Truck of the Week
Locked In For UCC: 1,900 hp on Fuel
With three-time UCC champion Lavon Miller out of the fight at UCC 2019, the million-dollar question has been who will win it all this year? Chris Buhidar is making a bid for the top spot with his Cummins-powered ’00 F-350, the same truck that finished Fourth Place in 2018 thanks to mid 8’s at the drag strip, 2,238 hp on the dyno and a Sixth Place effort in the sled pull. As proof that ditching the triple-turbo setup for a single 94mm Garrett GTX55 didn’t hurt the truck’s power potential, he recently cleared 1,886-rwhp on fuel during in-house testing at Truck Source Diesel. With nitrous in the mix at UCC, there could easily be another 500 hp in the mix…

Blockbuster Weekend at Rudy’s
Rudy’s Season Opener attracts a crowd for a reason! The ODSS drag racing circuit kicked off in a big way over the weekend, with new organization, industry, and personal records being set. Before the rain hit on Friday, last year’s Pro Mod Champion Ben Shadday and his nasty short bed Cummins went 4.57 during the first round of qualifying. Other notable passes were made by the Firepunk Diesel/Save the Racks Pro Mod S10 and Johnny Gilberts/Stainless Diesel Pro Street Dodge. Gilberts turned in a new personal best of 5.06, while Larson Miller (driver of the Save the Racks S10) went 4.38 at 158 mph during the second round of qualifying, and then went 4.27 at 177 later on—reclaiming the quickest (and fastest) overall diesel door car record.

More From Rudy’s
As for the winners in North Carolina, defending Pro Mod Champ Ben Shadday hit the ground running, taking home the overall win on Saturday. In Pro Dragster, it was Jared Jones and the Scheid Diesel rail in the winner’s circle. As for Pro Street, Emilio Blanco and the team at Anarchy Diesel Tuning took the win over Johnny Gilbert, and Paul Cato hauled in the W over McCoy Black in the always competitive 5.90 Index class. Other Index category victors were Joshua Grahmann in 6.70, and Isaac Blaess in 7.70. The E.T. Bracket class win went to Kamron Burchett.

Scrambling to Make UCC
T-minus two weeks before Ultimate Callout Challenge 2019 was set to begin in Indianapolis, Kodi Koch found himself in Florida making both licensing and UCC test passes in the two-wheel drive Duramax he planned to compete with. Unfortunately, after the air-to-water intercooler sprang a leak, the rear tires lost traction, and the truck tagged the wall. Determined to make it to UCC, Koch, crew chief Dmitri Millard, and the rest of his team immediately began cutting up the truck and making repairs. Along with the front tube section of the frame needing rebuilt, a replacement passenger side door was sourced, as well as a whole host of other front-end, body, and cosmetic components.

Built 7.3L For Under 15K
It’s not every day you come across a clean ’99-’03 7.3L Super Duty with a built engine for less than $15,000. Nevertheless, New Jersey resident Bobby Imgrund has his ’01 F-250 Lariat up for grabs for $14,500. The 7.3L Power Stroke sports Carrillo rods, 400/400 Unlimited Diesel Performance injectors, an A1000-based fuel system from Marty’s Diesel Performance, SRP1.1 high-pressure oil pump, Bullseye S475, custom headers, a BTS 4R100, and Jelibuilt Performance tunes on a Hydra Chip. PMF traction bars and a rust-free ’10 bed should help seal the deal for the lucky buyer.
