Truck Of The Week
David Petrick, Josh McCormack Team Up At Smoky Mountain Truck Fest
It’s hard not to attract UCC and All Truck Challenge competitor David Petrick to a dyno event in the eastern half of the United States. Last week, in preparation for Smoky Mountain Truck Fest, and with his truck’s Cummins still on the engine stand, Petrick and good friend Josh McCormack dropped McCormack’s 6.4L Cummins into his ’07 Dodge to make the show. There, strapped to Maverick Diesel’s industry-standard Mustang chassis dyno, the bad blue third-gen cleared 1,629 hp (a new record for this dyno) and won top honors in the Open Class. Dynomite Diesel Products fueling and a W.O.T. Motorsports transmission helped make it possible.

One Last April Fool’s Day Joke
Would you rather Gale Banks solve our country’s current runaway inflation, fix the holes in its national security, and get us back to affordable diesel prices? How did this one fall through the cracks?! For the ultimate 4/1 prank, Banks Power released an epic video announcing Banks’ bid for the presidency in 2024. Of course it’s a joke, but think of the possibilities… Social media users didn’t waste any time chiming in. Best answer? “Gale would not want to jump into something that needs hip waders and a complete flush like a 1,000,000-mile cooling system.” Check out the video at the link below.

Ram 1500 Named 2022 Full Size Pickup Of The Year
For the fourth year running, Ram’s 1500 has been voted the full-size pickup truck of the year by the editors at Auto123.com. The Canadian publication, which has existed since 1996, praised the late model Ram for its interior materials and comfortable ride, but also the four-corner coil spring configuration coupled with air suspension, cutting-edge in-cab technology, long-term durability, and (of course) performance. On the diesel side, the Ram 1500’s 3.0L V-6 EcoDiesel option continues to lead the segment in torque with 480 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm, while producing 260 hp and returning as much as 32 mpg highway in two-wheel drive models.

U.S. NHTSA Announces Strongest Fuel Economy Standards To Date
The National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) finalized new corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards on March 31 that will require a fleet average of 49-mpg for passenger cars and light duty pickups by 2026. The new standards call for an 8-percent annual fuel economy increase for ’24 and ’25 model year vehicles, and 10-percent annually for the ’26 model year. CAFE and GHG rules were originally established under the Obama administration in 2012, were modified (i.e. relaxed) during the Trump presidency and via the SAFE rule, but the standards were ordered to be reviewed by way of Executive Order 13990 in January of 2021. The updated fuel economy and GHG standards call for even deeper emission reductions than the 2012 regulation.

The Pulsar LT From Edge Products
If you’re looking for the ultimate driving experience from your 3.0L Duramax, Edge Products’ Pulsar LT needs to be on your wish list. More than a throttle booster (although it does that, too), the Pulsar LT disables the annoying auto start/stop function, can adjust the top speed limiter, calibrate your truck for larger tires, clear DTC’s, offers a manual high idle feature, and even allows you to command DPF regen intervals and transmission relearn. The Pulsar LT’s built-in pedal sensitivity control, its major selling point, allows you to eliminate that dead pedal feel when driving. The Pulsar LT is available for ’19-’21 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500’s powered by the 3.0L Duramax and retails for $506.95.
