Weekend Recap 3.5.18
Engine Of The Week
2,000 HP Cummins
Done Right
Ben Shadday, owner of Done Right Diesel Performance, has been hard at it over at Freedom Racing Engines, where his 6.8L Cummins recently made some impressive test hits on the engine dyno. With the “break-in” tune uploaded to the engine’s ECM, it cleared 1,845 hp. Then on the kill tune, it would make a whopping 2,024 hp at 4,200 rpm. Shadday’s solid block Cummins sports a Freedom Racing Engine short-block and a competition Wagler head and intake. A D&J Precision Machine front cover accommodates a DSR lift pump and two 12mm CP3’s from S&S Diesel Motorsport. For boost, a single 102mm GT55 from Forced Inductions hangs from the exhaust manifold, while a unique, six-jet nitrous system is used to individually control in-cylinder heat. The 2,000hp common-rail will power Shadday’s fiberglass body, 3,400-pound Pro Stock truck down the drag strip this season.
Highlights
Broken Records
Highest F-Series Sales in 18 Years
Fresh from Dearborn: Ford logged its best February sales in nearly two decades. Total sales figures tallied 68,243 trucks in February, which also marked the company’s 10th consecutive month of gains. As Ford’s truck sales continue to soar, its average transactional price per pickup now exceeds the overall average in the truck segment as well ($47,200 vs. $43,800). According to FoMoCo, “continued strong demand for high series trucks along with a good mix of Crew Cab trucks” is behind the higher-than-average transactional price per vehicle.
Hopefully It’s Not a Bad Omen
More Diesel Bans in the EU
A diesel vehicle ban has been approved in select cities in Germany. The Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig stated that the cities of Stuttgart and Duesseldorf have legal authority to ban older, higher polluting diesel cars. It’s a ruling which sets a precedent that could potentially be used to enact similar bans all across Europe. After approximately 70 cities surpassed the European Union’s allowable limits for nitrogen oxides in 2017, the environmental group, Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), brought the case before the Federal Administrative Court.

ATS Gauntlet Challenge
Another Win For Randy Reyes
Thanks to its $500 buy-in, winner-take-all conditions, ATS Diesel’s Gauntlet Challenge has become a fairly captivating event in recent years. The 20-truck cap is quickly met, the rules are simple, and the trucks that show up are downright fierce. For the 2018 event, U.C.C. competitor Randy Reyes and his 9-second dually would set the unbeatable mark at 1,603 hp and 2,004 lb-ft of torque. After making a quick 10K, Reyes loaded his triple-turbo Cummins back on the trailer and headed 550 miles back to Tooele, Utah, where he’s sure to be continuing his prep for U.C.C., which is now just two months away.
Indoor Truck Pulling
Dekalb Super Pull
The 25th annual Dekalb Super Pull took place at the Preble County fairgrounds in Eaton, Ohio over the weekend. Hosted by the Central Ohio Tractor Pullers Association, the invite-only event called on eight trucks to compete in the 2.5 Class. Friday night, the top 5 competitors were allowed to come back the following evening to hook in the Saturday night show. After making the cut the first night, Chris Mann’s pea-green 12-valve stormed its way to a Second Place finish on Saturday.
